"Nervous Like Me" presents a raw and energetic blend of punk and indie rock, characterized by its lo-fi production and gritty instrumentation. The album features punchy guitar riffs and driving rhythms that create a sense of urgency, particularly evident in tracks like "Serious Things Are Stupid" and "Animal." The tempo varies, with some songs maintaining a brisk pace while others, like "Black Hills," offer a more contemplative feel. Texturally, the album balances abrasive edges with melodic hooks, allowing for moments of introspection amidst the chaos. The distinctiveness lies in its candid lyricism and the way it captures youthful angst, making each track resonate with a palpable sense of immediacy and authenticity.
