"City of Subarus" features a vibrant blend of lo-fi pop and indie rock, characterized by jangly guitars and catchy melodies. The production embraces a raw, unpolished aesthetic, allowing the energetic instrumentation to shine through. Tracks like "8 Great Ways" and "Crush This Town" showcase upbeat tempos and infectious hooks, while "Godspeed" introduces a more reflective tone with its layered textures. The album maintains a playful yet earnest vibe, evident in the whimsical titles like "Vacation in Christine, ND" and "Bee Sting Stings." Overall, the distinctive charm lies in its DIY spirit, combining a sense of nostalgia with a contemporary edge, making it a quintessential representation of late '90s indie pop.
