"The Plague" by Demon showcases a raw and aggressive heavy metal sound characteristic of the early '80s. The production is gritty, emphasizing a powerful guitar presence with thick, distorted riffs that drive the energy throughout the album. The drumming is dynamic, alternating between fast-paced tempos and more measured beats, creating a sense of urgency and tension. Vocals are delivered with a theatrical flair, adding to the dramatic atmosphere of tracks like "Fever in the City" and "The Only Sane Man." Texturally, the album balances melodic hooks with darker, more ominous undertones, particularly in tracks such as "The Writings on the Wall." This combination of intensity and theatricality makes "The Plague" a distinctive entry in the heavy metal genre.
