"Close to a World Below" showcases Immolation's signature blend of intricate guitar work and relentless rhythms, characteristic of late '90s death metal. The production is raw yet polished, allowing the dense, layered guitar riffs to cut through the mix with clarity. The album features a dynamic range of tempos, oscillating between blistering blast beats and more deliberate, crushing grooves, creating a palpable sense of tension. Texturally, the sound is dark and brooding, with dissonant melodies and guttural vocals that evoke a haunting atmosphere. Tracks like "Father, You're Not a Father" and "Unpardonable Sin" exemplify the band's ability to weave complex arrangements while maintaining an intense energy, making this album a standout in the genre.
