He is the son of alternative country artist, Steve Earle. Earle grew up in South Nashville, Tennessee, with his mother, Carol Ann Hunter Earle. His father Steve Earle gave Justin his middle name in honor of his mentor Townes van Zandt, but left Justin's mother when he was 2. Part of the Nashville, Tennessee, U.S. music scene.
