Album: Hide and Seek by The Birthday Massacre (2012)
Genre: Goth | Style: Rock/Pop
Record Label: Metropolis Records
Format: Album

Description: Hide and Seek is the fifth studio album by Canadian electronic rock band The Birthday Massacre.

In a press release statement, the album was described by the band as being "darker" lyrically than previous records, a quality that was attributed to a sense of tension and a rushed urgency that was felt during the writing and recording process. During the recording process it was learned that lead vocalist Chibi had developed polyps, which in effect, altered some of the qualities of her voice during the album's final recording. In an interview with Auxiliary Magazine, the album's theme was described by the band as being loosely based on Chibi's fascination with unsolved murder mysteries, the idea of the city, and death; particularly, the thirty-year-old mystery of a missing girl. The song "Leaving Tonight" in particular is loosely inspired by the unsolved kidnapping/murder of Christine Jessop.

Regarding the writing process, Chibi stated in a December 2012 interview with The Weekender that lyrics were challenging to write.

In the same interview, she explained that recording was also straining for her voice, even after quitting smoking. On the stress of her health conditions and meeting the recording deadlines, Chibi commented: "We were able to achieve some really interesting stuff... There's a lot of anger or frustration that is there and it's so real because I was furious at the situation."

Artist Background: The Birthday Massacre (often identified using the abbreviation TBM) is a synthrock band, based in Toronto, Canada. The band formed in 1999, known then as Imagica. This name was borrowed from the novel Imajica by Clive Barker. Part of the Toronto, Canada music scene. Emerged in the 1990s era. Associated with Goth movement. Known for Rock/Pop style.

Album: Superstition by The Birthday Massacre (2014)
Genre: Goth | Style: Rock/Pop
Record Label: Metropolis Records
Format: Album

Description: Superstition is the sixth studio album by Canadian electronic rock band The Birthday Massacre, released on November 11, 2014 through Metropolis Records. The album was funded through PledgeMusic. To promote the album, a subsequent North America tour and music video for "Beyond" followed the album's release.

In 2015, Chibi admitted that the band had initially been hesitant to produce an album through crowd funding, but were glad they made the choice. In Fireworks Magazine Online, she said: "We really wanted it to be worthwhile for the fans... It was incredible to reach our goal so quickly; the campaign definitely brought to us an awareness of how supportive our fans can be. We’re so grateful for everything they’ve done for us."

Regarding the album's themes and lyrics, Chibi has said "I was in a darker place and sort of looking for spiritual comfort, which naturally just brings up confusion and even more questions, so there are more of those lyrical themes on this record. I suffered a few losses in the last year which sent me looking for comfort; a sort of “what is beyond all of this” kind of thing. We started looking at legends, religions, ideas, what other cultures look to, what images and ideas from those explorations appealed to us and working those themes in. Ultimately, spiritual and religious beliefs are basically just “superstitions”, and thus, that became the theme of the album."

During interviews, the band stated that the themes of the album came from their recurring element of water, mythology and world cultures' different views on religion, mortality, loss, and the unknown nature of the afterlife.
