Album: North Atlantic Drift by Ocean Colour Scene (2003)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: North Atlantic Drift is the sixth album by Ocean Colour Scene.
The title track is political commentary on American cultural imperialism and its support by the UK government, particularly the then impending US-led invasion of Iraq, which was opposed by the majority of the British public. (OCS had shown their anti-war tendencies with the previous protest song Profit in Peace and associated with Paul Weller). "Meanwhile Rome burns" appears to be a reference to the September 11 Attacks, analogy with the Sacking of Rome, "Between the Euphrates and the other river now the home of the Devil and the liar" is a reference to Iraq and US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, respectively.
The first track, I Just Need Myself was played by Virgin Radio and reached #13 in the charts, though the other two singles did less well but still charted inside the top 40. The folky Second Hand Car was released as a single in Germany and Holland. She's Been Writing is dedicated to Sandy Denny, one of Fowler's favourite bands being Fairport Convention
The U.S. version was released on August 19, 2003, and contained four bonus tracks, all of which were b-sides to the U.K. single releases of "I Just Need Myself."
The album was released to a largely mixed-to-negative reception. It was the last album released with the original line up after Damon Minchella left the band in late 2003.

Album: Mechanical Wonder by Ocean Colour Scene (2001)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: Mechanical Wonder is the fifth album by Ocean Colour Scene. It peaked on the UK album chart at #7 and lasted four weeks in the top 75. To date, it is the last Ocean Colour Scene release to enter the top 10.
The title is believed to be anti-dance music, as are the lyrics; "the Mechanical Wonder is... ...just a noise in my room."[citation needed] However, the band deny this. Simon Fowler wrote in the liner notes of the band's greatest hits album "Songs for the Front Row" that the title referred to cars on the motorway. Live however, Simon Fowler often sings "and the radio plays only fucking Radio 1", a possible reference to the lack of airplay the band get. The other single from the album was "Up on the Downside", which fared better in the charts. The album was not a success, marking the end of the Britpop success of the band. After the failure of the album, the band decided to release themselves from their contract with their record label.

Album: Ocean Colour Scene by Ocean Colour Scene (1992)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: Ocean Colour Scene is the eponymous 1992 début album by the British rock group Ocean Colour Scene. It was released during the early Britpop era with far less critical interest than their highly successful second album Moseley Shoals. Ocean Colour Scene themselves largely ignore this album, feeling that the band and label's conflicting musical views led to a 'watered-down' début which lacked the edge of the band's live popularity. The first single from the album was "Sway" in February 1992, followed by "Giving it All Away" in March and finally "Do Yourself a Favour" in May.

Album: One From the Modern by Ocean Colour Scene (1999)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: One from the Modern is the fourth album by Ocean Colour Scene.
The album made a departure from the two previous albums Moseley Shoals and Marchin' Already, and is slower and sadder. It was panned by critics who accused it of being too commercial and labelled it "dad rock." The album was dismissed by David Belcher of The Herald who commented on its "strangled vocals" and "cringe-worthy lyrics." Nicholas Barber writing for The Independent concurred saying: "Much of the blame must rest on Simon Fowler. His mangled vocals and nonsense lyrics suggest that he doesn't know what it is he wants to communicate."
The protest song "Profit in Peace" was the first single, with "So Low" and then a double release of "I Am the News"/"July". The song "Soul Driver" is dedicated to Paul Weller, who mentored the band.
The album's cover photograph was taken in the Yew Garden at Packwood House near Solihull, England, a National Trust Property.

Album: Moseley Shoals by Ocean Colour Scene (1996)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: Moseley Shoals is a 1996 album by the British rock group Ocean Colour Scene which was released during the Britpop era. The album reached #2 in the UK charts, selling over 600,000 copies.

The first single taken from the album was "The Riverboat Song", which was popularised by Chris Evans on TFI Friday. "The Day We Caught the Train" reached number four in the charts, with "You've Got It Bad" and "The Circle" also reaching the top 10. "One for the Road" was also due to be released, but the band decided to concentrate on the 1997 album release Marchin' Already. By the end of 1996, "Moseley Shoals" had sold 1.3 million copies.

The word Moseley is taken from a suburb of the same name in south Birmingham, UK, where three of the band members were born. The album title as a whole is a punning nod to the city of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the location of several famous 1960s soul recording studios.

In 1998, Q magazine's readers voted Moseley Shoals the 33rd greatest album of all time.

The memorial by which the band can be seen standing on the front cover is the Jephson Memorial in The Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa, UK.

Album: Marchin' Already by Ocean Colour Scene (1997)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: Marchin' Already is the third album by Ocean Colour Scene.

The album was a follow-up to the successful Moseley Shoals, and is in a similar style. The songs were taken from the band's catalogue that they had built up since forming several years earlier.

The single "Hundred Mile High City" was used in the film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Nodding a reference to northern soul, P.P. Arnold appears on "Traveller's Tune" and "It's a Beautiful Thing". A more subdued version of "Traveller's Tune" originally appeared as a B-side to "The Day We Caught the Train".

The album knocked Oasis' Be Here Now off the top spot in the UK Albums Chart - Noel Gallagher sent Ocean Colour Scene his congratulations through a plaque on which he had inscribed, "To The Second Best Band In Britain". Steve Cradock, famously said "it's an honour to be described as Britain's second best band, ahead of Oasis but behind the Beatles".[citation needed]

In 2007 the song "Get Blown Away" was covered by British indie band The Enemy as a b-side to their single It's Not OK, albeit just a piano and vocal version.

Album: 21 by Ocean Colour Scene (2010)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Compilation

Description: The Ocean Colour Scene story should already be the stuff of legend; a rip-roaring rock'n'folk odyssey set to a backdrop of 21 years of U.K pop culture at its very best.
In this 21 year existence Ocean Colour Scene have notched up nine albums, three of which went Top 5 - 1996's Moseley Shoals, 1997's Marchin' Already and 1999's One From The Modern - and a run of nine successive Top 20 hit singles commencing with 1996's The Riverboat Song. They supported Oasis at their massive Knebworth shows that same year, and two years later helmed the biggest arena tour of any UK band to date. Today they headline venues as prestigious as London's Royal Albert Hall (see current tour dates below). Their achievements have truly been phenomenal.
From their days as Breton-shirt wearing disciples of The Stone Roses (debut single 'Sway') to million selling Britpop superstars ('Marchin' Already' bumped Oasis' 'What the Story' from the top spot in 1997) to long-term touring allies with Paul Weller, their story is inseparable from the greats of modern British rock.

The Ocean Colour Scene story should already be the stuff of legend; a rip-roaring rock'n'folk odyssey set to a backdrop of 21 years of U.K pop culture at its very best.

Album: A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad by Ocean Colour Scene (2005)
Genre: Alternative Rock | Style: Rock/Pop | Mood: Gritty
Format: Album

Description: A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad is the seventh album by Ocean Colour Scene (OCS); Hyperactive Workout was originally due to be released in September 2004 but Sanctuary Records requested the band record a live album instead and pushed the release back to 'early 2005' (the album finally arrived on 21 March). The album was produced by Dave Eringa who has previously worked with Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild and Massive Attack amongst others. The album was recorded at a hunting lodge near Kirriemuir, Scotland. The album's unusual title was a phrase the band heard on BBC Radio 4 and decided they liked. Critical reception to the album generally agreed that the album would please OCS fans, although the album charted lower than previous albums at number 30 in the UK album chart compared to number 14 for the previous album North Atlantic Drift. A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad was also the first studio album not to feature the band's original bass player, Damon Minchella, who left the band in 2003.
