Ever an advocate for the belief (to borrow a phrase) that music makes the people come together, CONFESSIONS II makes unity more of a priority for Madonna than ever before. “No one wants to go outside,” she sings on “Everything”, disrupting the pulse of shape-shifting beats with a confused shout: “It’s not OK/I don’t fuck with it!” 

And yet, outside is where the party’s at—as she makes clear on “Danceteria”. Over bright disco beats evocative of her 1982 debut “Everybody”, Madonna narrates the events of a night out at the titular NYC club where her journey to superstardom began. Outside is the place to be both seen (with Debi Mazar, with Basquiat, with Nile Rodgers) and simultaneously to be rendered invisible: liberated from your own personal hang-ups, just another body in the crowd. 

“That’s why I like to go dancing…” she confides on the airy, untethered lead single “I Feel So Free”, whispering the words “safety in numbers” like a secret incantation meant to be heard and understood by those most in need of its protection. It’s music as religion, choreography as communion, DJ made deity. And “it’s good for the soul”, as she reminds us, two tracks deep into the album’s continuous 64-minute mix. “To let down your hair and breathe in the air.”

With her point more than proven, the back half of the record leaves room to explore everything else on Madonna’s mind. Anthemic Martin Garrix collaboration “Bizarre” centres on love and its absurdities; “Fragile” pays open-hearted tribute to her late brother Christopher Ciccone, and the well-documented turbulence of their relationship, while “The Test”, addressed to “Little Star”—aka Madonna’s eldest child Lourdes Leon, who also features on the track—finds mother and daughter healing emotional wounds over propulsive, Arca-assisted beats. 

As the album nears its end point, the pace slows but the dynamic elements of the production accelerate, opening up to more experimental sounds, a testament to Madonna’s relentless desire to push her own boundaries, even as she retreads familiar ground.

As for the sky-high expectations set by its predecessor, it would be fair to say that capturing lightning in a bottle even once is a rare enough feat that twice would be nothing short of a miracle. If CONFESSIONS II doesn’t quite achieve the impossible, the fact that 21 years later, both Madonna and Price are still chasing the storm holds a power of its own.

Bedtime Stories is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on October 25, 1994 by Maverick Records. Madonna collaborated with Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave "Jam" Hall and Nellee Hooper, deciding to move into a more R&B direction. I started getting invited to people's homes and they have things called living room sessions. So everyone would congregate. People would bring wine, they would bring food, sit around the table. And then suddenly musicians would get up and start playing instruments and singing fado music and morna music and samba music. I was like, 'Wait. What's going on here? Like artists just get up and perform and you don't get paid and they're just doing it for fun and love and passion?
Madonna relocated to Lisbon, Portugal in 2017, seeking a top football academy for boys for her son David, who wanted to become a professional soccer player. However, she later found her life becoming relatively dull, so she decided to meet artists, painters, and musicians. One of the first musicians Madonna met in Lisbon was a man named Dino D'Santiago, who she said introduced her to a great many more musicians in the area, including the Batucadeiras, a collective of drummers who she collaborated with on the track "Batuka" on this album.

Description: Madonna is the self-titled debut album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on July 27, 1983 by Sire Records. The album was re-released in 1985 for the European market and re-packaged as The First Album. In 1982, while establishing herself as a singer in Downtown New York, Madonna met Seymour Stein, president of Sire Records, who signed her after listening to her single "Everybody". The success of the single prompted Sire to sign her for an album's deal. For the album, Madonna chose to work with Reggie Lucas, a Warner Bros. producer. However, she was not happy with the completed tracks and disagreed with Lucas's production techniques, so decided to seek additional help with the production.

Madonna then invited her boyfriend at the time, John "Jellybean" Benitez, to help her finish the album. Benitez remixed many of the tracks and produced "Holiday". The overall sound of Madonna is dissonant, and is in the form of upbeat synthetic disco, utilizing some of the new technology of the time, like the usage of Linn drum machine, Moog bass and the Oberheim OB-X synthesizer. The songs on the album are sung by Madonna in a bright, girlish vocal timbre, and lyrically talks about love and relationships.

Rebel Heart is the thirteenth studio album by American singer Madonna. It was released on March 6, 2015 by Interscope Records. After a flurry of unexpected album content leaks, including thirteen early demos in December 2014, the record's release was locked in for March 2015, and six of its tracks were officially released onto iTunes on December 20, 2014. On the same day, "Living for Love" was released as the album's lead single.
Following the release of her twelfth studio album, MDNA (2012), Madonna embarked on The MDNA Tour to promote it. The tour visited America, Europe, the Middle East and a number of new venues, but courted many controversial subjects such as violence, firearms, human rights, nudity and politics. Lawsuits threatened against Madonna were also engaged from the concerts. Madonna was enraged by many of these incidents, which she claimed was "injustice" against human beings. These included the imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko in Ukraine and Pussy Riot in Russia, gay rights violations, presidential election in the United States and the assassination attempt of Malala Yousafzai. In September 2013, she released secretprojectrevolution, a short film directed by her and Steven Klein, dealing with artistic freedom and human rights. The film also launched a global initiative called Art for Freedom to promote freedom of expression.

Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, commented that the singer was "eager to get started" on her next album. In February 2014, Madonna confirmed that she had already begun working on her thirteenth studio album, saying that she was "right now in the process of talking to various co-writers and producers and talking about where I want to go with my music". But she refrained from divulging the name of the collaborators, stating that it was "top secret". Madonna confirmed in the cover story of L'Uomo Vogue in May 2014 that the album would be connected with Art for Freedom, saying that she "had" to be committed to the initiative since "At this point, there's no turning back. This is my role in the world, my work as an artist. I have a voice and I have to use it". However, working with many collaborators posed a problem for Madonna to keep cohesion with the sound and the direction of Rebel Heart, since her previous efforts have been with only a core group of people developing the music. She observed that a lot of the young people she enlisted would not stay in one city at a time due to their different projects, resulting in Madonna not finishing her songs. Although she would have a number of ideas, it was a "chaotic way to work" for the singer due to the confusion surrounding the schedule. "So, I was just the person standing there with a clipboard in the headlights, going 'Ok!' A little bit like a school teacher," she admitted.

Madonna wanted the album title and the cover image to make provocative link between her own religious name Madonna, as the Roman Catholic title for Jesus' mother Mary, and the Christian concept of the virgin birth.

Like a Virgin is not that much of a musical departure from Madonna's first album, but she felt that the material was stronger. Along with Rodgers, Madonna also collaborated with her former boyfriend Steve Bray, who co-wrote many songs on the album. Consisting of dance-pop oriented music, the songs also incorporated New Wave. After its release, Like a Virgin received mixed reviews from the critics, but was a commercial success. It became Madonna's first number one album on the Billboard 200, while reaching the top of the charts in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it diamond for shipment of ten million copies across the United States.
