With every album since 2017’s Unstoppable, KAROL G progressively moved beyond expectations. Clearly not content with being the top reggaetonera on the scene, the Colombian singer refined and repositioned herself with each new full-length, from the beach dreaminess of OCEAN through the diverse sides of her MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO era. Her unapologetic eagerness to cross genre lines while still building with long-time allies like Ovy On the Drums grew her global fanbase exponentially, outpacing just about everyone else in Latin music who emerged during the mid-2010s boom.

“It’s amazing because it’s a dream come true to have all the genres that I touch, the musicians that I work with, producers, composers, the places that I went to get this album done—even the time that I had to talk to myself...and be really focused on the process,” she tells Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

Now fully vested in the trappings of megastardom, she offers what is easily her most ambitious album to date in Tropicoqueta, its titular portmanteau a marked pivot that reflects how reggaetón’s baddest bichota successfully evolved into one of the world’s biggest pop artists. Among the album’s triumphs is just how at ease KAROL sounds on these 20 shapeshifting tracks, adapting and thriving over different sounds in ways that even some of her famous peers could never. “I really wanted to go to the roots, and I went back to all the maestros in the music, like even the arrangement people, all of them in every genre,” she says. “More than new and fresh, it feels like home. It feels like roots. It feels like what we used to be, and now we’re kind of forgetting where we come from.”

Aiming to genuinely connect with and honour Latin musical cultures more broadly, she faithfully plays to homegrown vallenato on the pleading “No Puedo Vivir Sin Él” and reaches for cumbia villera on “Cuando Me Muera Te Olvido”. Decidedly Caribbean forms like bachata and dembow feature on “Amiga Mía” with Greeicy and “Un Gatito Me Llamó”, respectively. Her fusions spark joy as well, combining New York City’s sexy drill with Brazilian baile funk on “Bandida Entrenada” and embracing tropical pop on bilingual standout “Papasito”. And while Latin Afrobeats is essentially its own active subgenre at this point, she holds space for herself within it on the somewhat mysterious “Verano Rosa” featuring Feid.

None of this means that KAROL’s given up on reggaetón, of course. She sprinkles in a gratifying amount of it throughout, beginning with the poppy perreo of “LATINA FOREVA” and continuing on deeper cuts like “Tu Perfume” and the Mariah Angeliq reunion “FKN Movie”. Elsewhere, as on “Se Puso Linda”, that familiar polyrhythm operates more like a texture than a driver, leaving room for her femme-forward storytelling to shine. The sheer power of her relatable lyricism is hard to deny as well, from the character-driven world-building of “Ivonny Bonita” to the romantic mischievousness of “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido”.

As for the album’s title, she explains the inspiration. “For this one, I was feeling like there’s a lot of congas in the songs,” she says. “A lot—like, I think the main character is the congas. That sound is super tropical. Coqueta para nosotros is this flirty girl that is, like, super secure of herself, so I just add ‘tropical’ at the beginning, and I got this new name for my album that, I think, expressed perfectly the world that we are in.”

Album: NO ME ARREPIENTO DE SENTIR TANTO by KAROL G (2026)
Genre: Latin
Format: Album

Description: Over the course of a decade, KAROL G went from standout reggaetonera to global pop megastar. It’s the sort of ascent that so rarely happens in Latin music, where acts tend to experience genre hitmaking as a ceiling rather than a springboard to even bigger musical success and fame. Yet as the Colombian artist’s fans now intimately know, no single style could possibly have contained her.

Arriving a little over a year after the ambitious Tropicoqueta added even more depth and diversity to her discography, NO ME ARREPIENTO DE SENTIR TANTO finds KAROL evolving her self-described bichota brand to grapple with a breakup. But the reason why songs like “MATADORA” and “Bebiendo Lagrimas” succeed is that they primarily centre her instead of the unnamed him.

Opener “Te llevas To” dismisses this undeserving lover in a barrage of insults and vulnerable admissions, while the sombre finale, “Eclipse”, finds her intentionally alone and protecting her peace. (The latter’s sentiments understandably echo on balladic bonus track “Después de ti”.)

Such reluctance to open herself up to a potential new love becomes clearer on one of the album’s high-profile moments, as she trades hesitant remarks with Drake on the pulsating, Afrobeats-informed “Ahí”. The internalised tumult within transcends language, as demonstrated by the English-language Bruno Mars collab “Still”.

While, unlike on Tropicoqueta, genre experimentation takes a backseat to personal expression here, KAROL ensures that NO ME ARREPIENTO DE SENTIR TANTO includes a few opportunities to create beyond the comfort zone provided by her exceedingly talented go-to producer Ovy On the Drums. “Alguien que te amaba” invokes tejano form the way Selena once did, while the dancehall derivations of “BbY WOW” with Judeline and rusowsky add a tropical thump to her wider narrative. Still, there’s perhaps nothing quite so gratifying amid all these big feelings as when she settles back into a reggaetón pocket for “Con quien andará”.

AllMusic
Thom Jurek from AllMusic praised Giraldo’s ability to blend in multiple genres, stating, “KG0516 establishes Karol G as a visionary; she pushes hard at urbano's boundaries, blending them into the pop multiverse, only to bring the album's many dimensions to heel under reggaeton's dominance.”

Concept
The name of the album is a phrase I kept repeating to myself when nothing felt great. Every day I'd say to myself, 'It's okay, tomorrow will be beautiful'.

— Karol G explaining the name of the album.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Karol G revealed the concept for the title, stating: "This definitely represents a specific phase of my life. The name of album is a phrase I kept repeating to myself when nothing felt great. I mean, I was going through the best moment of my career, but personally I was really disconnected from myself and from my friends. I wasn't unhappy, but I wasn't happy either. So every day I'd say to myself, 'It's okay, mañana será bonito, tomorrow will be beautiful.'"

In a later interview with The New York Times, she described the album as "more Carolina than Karol G". She added: "Right now, I notice that artists are trying very hard to find a concept, to be very experimental, I love that. And that's a good way to do art. But the concept of this album is just me being me. I really didn't want people to feel it was like very simple, or just normal."

Assembling club smashes and brand-new jams, Karol G's debut album wraps surprisingly raw tropical beats in candied pop hooks. On the R&B-meets-reggaeton banger "Hello", she's a melodic spitfire, dropping bars like a bubbly MC alongside Ozuna. But she's just as good when it comes to sensual moodiness, even upstaging trap lothario Bad Bunny with her femme-fatale turn on "Ahora Mi Llama". And while Unstoppable is studded with attention-grabbing collaborations, it's solo cuts like the distortion-soaked and emotion-choked "Lo Sabe Dios" that establish Karol as a true diva.
