Liverpool rapper EsDeeKid first broke through in 2024 off the strength of his rambunctious, deliriously playful collaboration with Rico Ace, “Bally”. Though the song marked a significant moment in the young artist’s career, his notoriety following 2025’s Rebel was due to a case of mistaken identity: A persistent rumour followed the masked MC that he was actually Timothée Chalamet in disguise, a fun yet ultimately untrue industry whisper that turned into a viral moment for both the rapper and his suspected alter ego. Together, Timmy and EsDeeKid dropped a remix of his Rebel standout “4 Raws”, putting to bed any rumours that the two were the same person—each appeared in the video. But the moment helped contextualise EsDeeKid’s popularity, which solidified the strength of Rebel. Throughout, he flips UK grime on its head, accenting it with the technicolour delirium of US stars like Playboi Carti and Yeat. Though he shares a passing resemblance to Marty Supreme himself, EsDeeKid proved on Rebel that he is one of one.
