Description: Substrata is an ambient music album by Biosphere, released in 1997 by All Saints Records. It is considered to be a classic ambient album, consistently in the top 5 in surveys on the Hyperreal ambient mailing list.

It is Biosphere's first truly ambient album, and has a theme of cold, of mountains and glaciers, and of running water. Sounds of howling wind and creaking wood, although infrequently employed, create a chilling soundscape interrupted by sonorous but quietly suspenseful music.

Description: Angel's Flight contains twelve tracks based on Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14 that deftly tread the peripheries of classical and electronic composition.

Album: Autour de la lune by Biosphere (2004)
Genre: Ambient | Style: Electronic | Mood: Dreamy
Record Label: Apollo Records
Format: Album

Description: Autour de la Lune is the 6th album by ambient musician Biosphere which was released on 17 May 2004. The album presents a striking difference from others in the Biosphere catalog due to its percussionless, minimalistic soundscapes consisting mostly of white noise and the sounds of the Mir space station, related to drone music. It featured cover art by the Norwegian contemporary artist Tor-Magnus Lundeby.

Autour de la Lune stands as the most minimal and austere Biosphere album to date. The drones employed on this album are comparable to Coil's 1998 album Time Machines in their timbre and slow rate of change.

The bulk of this work was originally commissioned and broadcast in September 2003 by Radio France Culture for a musical evocation of Jules Verne. As a book, Autour de la Lune (1870, Around the Moon) was Jules Verne's sequel to his De la Terre à la Lune (1865, From the Earth to the Moon). The first one dealt with the Earth part of the story until the ship's launching, from the outside. Autour de la Lune dealt from the inside of the ship with the launching and the actual space travel to and around the moon.

Album: Dropsonde by Biosphere (2005)
Genre: Ambient | Style: Electronic | Mood: Dreamy
Record Label: Apollo Records
Format: Album

Description: Dropsonde is the 7th ambient album by musician Biosphere (alias Geir Jenssen). Unlike his previous output, there is a notable jazz influence present on this album. The title refers to a dropsonde, a device designed to be dropped at altitude by parachute to collect data as the device falls to the ground (on Earth or sent to another planet.)

A Dropsonde sampler was pre-released on vinyl as a mini album on 27 September 2005 and the full album released on compact disc in January 2006 (though the track "In the Shape of a Flute" remained exclusive to the vinyl sampler).

Unlike Jenssen's previous output, there is a notable jazz influence present on this album (such as on the tracks "Birds Fly By Flapping Their Wings" and "In Triple Time"), evocative of Miles Davis's 1970s jazz fusion works. Some tracks also integrates material Jenssen recorded in late 2001 during his climbing of the 8201 meters mount Cho Oyu in Himalaya. (The raw material itself was released some months later as Cho Oyu 8201m – Field Recordings from Tibet.)
