Disney’s spirited retelling of the Rapunzel myth gets equally bright music from go-to composer Alan Menken. His precision-crafted score brings together ideas from medieval music and the early days of folk rock on incidental pieces like the crashing “Kingdom Dance” and the thoughtful “Waiting for the Lights” as well as on songs for the film’s ensemble. Mandy Moore, starring as Rapunzel, gives the Disney Princess ideal a spunky spin, while Jeffrey Tambor and Brad Garrett flaunt their brawny comedic charisma on “I’ve Got a Dream”.
