“One of the <i>crazy</i> things we did was not release this song because we didn’t think it was good enough.” That was Thom Yorke’s message to a Norwegian crowd in June 2017 before Radiohead played “I Promise” live for the first time since 1996. The centrepiece of <i>OKNOTOK</i>’s second set of unreleased tracks and B-sides, it’s a startlingly beautiful snapshot of the band’s ridiculous post-<i>The Bends</i>, <i>OK Computer</i>-era potency. Elsewhere, “Lift” is another glistening gem from the vaults and “Meeting in the Aisle” provides a reminder of the band’s haunting way around an instrumental. A remastered <i>OK Computer</i>, meanwhile, remains the foreboding masterpiece it ever was.
