Returning with their first studio album in eight years, Corrosion of Conformity serve up a double helping of Southern metal and heavy psychedelic rock. Written primarily by guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan and guitarist Woody Weatherman in rural Mississippi, Good God / Baad Man underscores the resilience of COC after drummer Reed Mullin’s passing in 2020 and bassist Mike Dean’s departure in 2024. The Good God record leans heavier with thunderous rocker “You or Me” and a throwback to the band’s early-’80s punk roots in “Gimme Some Moore”. The Baad Man record doles out jive-talking ’70s rock on the title track and closes with “Forever Amplified”, a tribute to Mullin and the band’s other fallen friends, featuring guest vocals from Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph of New Orleans jazz-funk institution Galactic.
