Mutant

In 2015, progressive electronic producer Alejandro Ghersi is best known for his client list, which includes Kanye West (<i>Yeezus</i>), Björk (<i>Vulnicura</i>) and the R&B chimera FKA twigs (<i>EP2</i>). Listening to his sophomore album, you can see what they liked. Dark, chilly, abstract and atmospheric but grounded by a visceral sense of rhythm, <i>Mutant</i> wobbles around like a creature that’s just fallen from space. Its best moments—the fractured interlude “Vanity” or quasi-industrial “Soichiro”—seem to abide by their own laws of physics, splintering under invisible pressure.
