A Plague upon Thee" by Apocalypse Orchestra immerses listeners in a rich tapestry of folk and doom metal, characterized by its medieval textures and atmospheric depth. The production is polished yet retains an organic feel, allowing the intricate interplay of traditional instrumentation and heavy guitar riffs to shine. Tracks like "Virago" and "Tempest" feature slow, brooding tempos that evoke a sense of foreboding, while the layered vocals add a haunting quality. The use of strings and flutes in pieces such as "Glass and Sun" creates a lush backdrop, contrasting with the heavier elements. This album stands out for its ability to blend melodic folk sensibilities with the weight of doom, crafting an immersive sonic experience.
