The Modern Art of Setting Ablaze" delivers a raw and visceral sound that intertwines sludge and black metal with hardcore intensity. The production is gritty yet polished, allowing the heavy guitar riffs and thunderous drums to resonate with a palpable weight. Tracks like "The Knowing" and "Age of the Absurd" feature relentless tempos and aggressive energy, while "Midgard Serpent (Seasons of Failure)" showcases a more atmospheric texture, blending haunting melodies with crushing heaviness. The album's distinctive character lies in its ability to oscillate between blistering ferocity and moments of eerie calm, creating a dynamic listening experience that is both punishing and immersive. The overall sonic landscape is dark, dense, and compellingly chaotic.
