Aztlán

Zoé remain pulled between shoegaze's enveloping bliss and krautrock's non-stop propulsion on Aztlán. These rock en español anthems once again come wreathed in celestial waves of guitar noise and catchy pop harmonies distorted by dreamlike reverb, while the relentless motorik rhythms keep things from evaporating into merely gorgeous texture. "No Hay Mal Que Dure" throbs forward on a synth-streaked groove that's electrifying in its mantra-like repetition, while psychedelia-tinged ballads like "Renacer" build the same wall-of-sound grandeur that Zoé has always deployed to overwhelming effect onstage.
