Description: Birth is an album by Keith Jarrett recorded in 1971 and released the next year. On five dates in July and August 1971 Jarrett went into the studio with his trio (Charlie Haden and Paul Motian) augmented with Dewey Redman on tenor saxophone and produced enough material for three albums, The Mourning of a Star (released in 1971), El Juicio (The Judgement) (released in 1975) and Birth. These albums marked the emergence of what would later be called Jarrett's "American quartet."

Artist Background: Keith Jarrett (born May 8, 1945) is an American pianist and composer who performs both jazz and classical music. His younger brother Chris Jarrett is also active as composer-pianist and resides in Germany. Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey, moving on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s he has enjoyed a great deal of success as a group leader and a solo performer in jazz, jazz fusion, and classical music. His improvisations draw from the traditions of jaz...
