On 25 August 2021, it was announced that Sting was due to release a new album on 19 November 2021, entitled The Bridge. On 1 September 2021, "If It's Love" was released as the first single from the album. Sting wrote the album "in a year of global pandemic, personal loss, separation, disruption, lockdown and extraordinary social and political turmoil".
