Resolve

A pianist, violinist, producer and composer, post-classical star Poppy Ackroyd counts Nils Frahm and Hauschka as collaborators. This is her fourth album, which dazzles with imaginatively and exquisitely orchestrated textures. Piano, prepared piano, bass clarinet and beautifully wrought percussion effects make up the Swiss watch-like perpetual motion of “The Calm Before”. The album’s title track pulsates with energy, while “Time” makes mesmerising use of the otherworldly Hang, a metal instrument with a bell-like intensity. Ackroyd’s music is full of sublime invention and high-octane drive from start to finish.
