"Build a Problem" showcases dodie's signature blend of indie pop and folk, characterized by intimate, confessional songwriting. The production is polished yet retains a raw, organic feel, with delicate instrumentation that often features acoustic guitar, piano, and subtle electronic elements. Tracks like "Air So Sweet" and "Rainbow" highlight airy textures and layered harmonies, creating an ethereal atmosphere. The tempo varies, with upbeat tracks like "Cool Girl" contrasting with more introspective moments in "Hate Myself" and "Sorry." The album's distinctive quality lies in its emotional vulnerability, enhanced by intricate arrangements and a dynamic use of space, allowing each song to resonate deeply while maintaining a cohesive sonic identity.
