Kingsized

On their raucous, playful seventh album, these Colorado indie pop stalwarts craft potent, compact rave-ups that balance sugary pop pleasures with pointed poetics. The fuzz-drenched hooks, bouncing basslines and revved-up rhythms of tracks like the jaunty “Pop Phenom” and the bashful “Make Mine Violet” add up to pure ear candy, and the plainly sardonic lyrics, delivered with matter-of-fact bravado by tart-tongued vocalist/guitarist Tammy Ealom, raise an eyebrow at conventional wisdom with wit and grace.
