Back on the Planet

On Back on the Planet, hip-hop producer Ras G returns to Earth with the strange bag of cosmic sounds he presumably discovered while exploring faraway galaxies. The bohemian beatmaker creates an instrumental soundscape with his combination of offbeat percussion, blurry keys and freaky electronics; the title track sounds like a jazzy reconstruction of the Big Bang, while “One 4 Kutmah” mixes a thumpingly old-school boom-bap drum loop with some cosmic Space Invaders–style sound effects.
