"Swords" showcases Morrissey's signature blend of melancholic melodies and sharp lyricism, wrapped in a polished production style that emphasizes clarity and depth. The instrumentation features jangly guitars, lush strings, and subtle synths, creating a rich sonic tapestry that complements the introspective themes of the tracks. Songs like "Good Looking Man About Town" and "Ganglord" maintain a mid-tempo energy, while "Shame Is the Name" introduces a more urgent rhythm. The textures range from the orchestral swells in "The Never-Played Symphonies" to the stripped-down arrangements of "If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look at Me," highlighting Morrissey's vocal nuances. Overall, the album is distinctive for its emotional resonance and intricate soundscapes.
