"Fishbone" showcases a vibrant fusion of ska and punk, characterized by its high-energy tempos and eclectic instrumentation. The production is raw yet polished, allowing the brass section to shine alongside punchy guitar riffs and dynamic bass lines. Tracks like "When Problems Arise" and "I Wish I Had a Date" exemplify the band's ability to blend frenetic rhythms with catchy melodies, creating a lively atmosphere. The album's textures range from the upbeat, danceable grooves of "Movement in the Light" to the more introspective moments found in "Post Cold War Politics." This distinctive sound, marked by its infectious energy and genre-blurring elements, captures the essence of mid-'80s underground music.
