Alone

After an eight-year hiatus, The Pretenders return with this celebration of rock 'n' roll moxie produced by Dan Auerbach, Black Keys frontman and Chrissie Hynde’s fellow Akronite. Together they rekindle the sweet simplicities of girl-group pop (“I Hate Myself”), folk-rock (the languorous “Let’s Get Lost”) and garage punk (“Roadie Man”, drizzled with Farfisa). Old hearts become new on “Never Be Together” and “Holy Communion”, in which accelerating drumbeats incite lovelorn daydreams.
