Hip-hop swagger meets pop sweetness on this alt-R&B singer’s breakthrough. Kehlani sings with a dulcet pop lilt, while Jahaan Sweet’s production skitters between two-left-feet beats and airy electro-R&B purls. The duets here reflect Kehlani's dual roles as a former America’s Got Talent finalist and a member of the post-hyphy collective HBK Gang: On the adult-contemporary “Down for You”, they just want a movie date with friend-lover BJ the Chicago Kid, while on the woozily weaving “The Way”, they talk dirty with Chance the Rapper.
