"Popular Favorites" by Oblivians showcases a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that embodies the spirit of 90s alternative rock. The production is gritty, with a garage rock edge that emphasizes distorted guitars and punchy rhythms. Tracks like "Guitar Shop Asshole" and "Do the Milkshake" blend frenetic tempos with a playful energy, while "Hey Mama, Look at Sis" introduces a more melodic, yet still abrasive, texture. The instrumentation is straightforward, featuring driving drums and fuzzy guitar riffs that create a sense of urgency. The album's distinctive sound lies in its unrefined charm, capturing a spontaneous feel that resonates throughout its eclectic tracklist, making it a quintessential representation of the era's underground scene.
