Gershwin's World" presents a rich tapestry of jazz, seamlessly blending orchestral arrangements with Hancock's signature keyboard textures. The album opens with the vibrant "Overture (Fascinating Rhythm)," setting a lively tempo that carries through tracks like "Cotton Tail" and "St. Louis Blues," where the interplay of brass and rhythm sections creates a dynamic energy. The production is polished, allowing the intricate layers of instrumentation to shine, from lush strings to rhythmic piano motifs. Pieces like "Summertime" and "My Man's Gone Now" showcase a more contemplative side, with haunting melodies and smooth transitions. The distinctive blend of classic Gershwin themes with contemporary jazz sensibilities makes this album a unique auditory experience.

As part of Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, Hancock helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the "post-bop" sound.
