Ultimate Hits: Rock and Roll Never Forgets

The premise of Bob Seger’s music is simple: passionate, no-frills rock about regular people with little to lose. What’s amazing is how much mileage he got out of it, and how broad an emotional range. Focussing on the golden years between 1976 and 1986—during which Seger vaulted from local hero to national star—Ultimate Hits is an impeccable introduction to his music, from the ripping nostalgia of “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Rock and Roll Never Forgets” to the misty reflections of “Turn the Page” and “Night Moves”. These are songs that defined their era, then and now.
