"A Poke in the Eye... With a Sharp Stick" immerses listeners in a gritty industrial metal soundscape characterized by heavy, distorted guitars and aggressive percussion. The production is raw yet polished, with a palpable sense of urgency that drives tracks like "It Tolls for Thee" and "Scumsberg." The tempo varies, oscillating between frenetic bursts in songs like "Shit for Brains" and more brooding, atmospheric moments in "Hildelinde." Textures are layered, combining harsh electronic elements with organic instrumentation, creating a dynamic contrast. The album's distinctive energy is underscored by its confrontational lyrics and relentless rhythms, making it a visceral experience that captures the essence of late '80s industrial metal.
