"Tiny Pictures" showcases a polished hard rock sound infused with pop sensibilities, characterized by dynamic instrumentation and layered textures. The production is crisp, allowing the driving guitar riffs and robust drumming to shine through, while melodic hooks create an engaging listening experience. Tracks like "Underneath the Radar" and "Changes" feature anthemic choruses that elevate the energy, while slower ballads like "Your Song" and "Make Believe" provide emotional depth with their rich harmonies and atmospheric arrangements. The album maintains a consistent tempo that oscillates between upbeat tracks and reflective moments, creating a balanced sonic landscape. The distinctiveness lies in its ability to blend rock grit with melodic accessibility, making it both powerful and relatable.

The first single, "Make Believe," was released to radio on December 12, 2008. Most of the songs on the album have been written for years but the five-year wait since Thornley's last release allowed Ian Thornley to bring on Nick Raskulinecz as producer, whose previous work includes albums with Foo Fighters and Velvet Revolver.
