"Gone Fishin'" presents a raw, unrefined sound characteristic of the early '80s punk and noise rock scene. The production is gritty, capturing a live, almost chaotic energy that enhances the urgency of tracks like "Survivors of the Plague" and "Talk's Cheap." The instrumentation features distorted guitars and driving bass lines, creating a dense, layered texture that is both abrasive and hypnotic. The tempo varies, with some tracks maintaining a relentless pace while others explore more languid, contemplative moments, as seen in "In Life My Friends." The album's distinctive quality lies in its ability to blend dissonance with melodic undertones, resulting in an engaging, visceral listening experience that challenges conventional song structures.
