"Refuse; Start Fires" showcases Scorn's signature blend of heavy bass and intricate sound design within the dubstep genre. The album features a rich tapestry of deep, resonant basslines that pulse with a menacing energy, while the percussion is both sparse and meticulously crafted, creating a sense of space and tension. Tracks like "Rained on Her Birthday" and "Shitwind's A-Coming" highlight the use of atmospheric textures, layering haunting samples and effects that evoke a dark, immersive soundscape. The tempo varies, maintaining a steady drive that invites movement, yet the overall vibe remains brooding and introspective. This album stands out for its meticulous production quality and the ability to evoke emotion through minimalistic yet powerful instrumentation.
