With their slick third album, Cold War Kids aim for arena-filling rock. They kick things off with the title track's soul-inflected piano pop, as Nathan Willett belts out his parts in the name of romantic escape. “Royal Blue” adds a funky, dance-ready guitar hook to its bouncy beat (which sometimes treads close to reggae rhythms); “Broken Open” walks a defined line between skittering cymbals and thundering tom-toms. “Flying Upside Down” caps off the affair with a rollicking, noisy crescendo aimed at the nosebleeds.
