"Design Your Universe" showcases Epica's signature blend of symphonic metal, characterized by lush orchestral arrangements and heavy guitar riffs. The production is polished, allowing for a rich sonic tapestry where operatic vocals intertwine seamlessly with aggressive instrumentation. Tracks like "Resign to Surrender" and "Martyr of the Free Word" feature dynamic shifts in tempo, creating an energetic flow that oscillates between soaring melodies and intense breakdowns. The album's smooth mood is enhanced by interludes such as "The Price of Freedom," which provide atmospheric pauses. Distinctive textures emerge from the layering of strings, choirs, and electronic elements, making the listening experience both grand and immersive, while tracks like "Semblance of Liberty" highlight the band's intricate songwriting and thematic depth.
