The album was produced by Jim Diamond and vocalist/guitarist Jack White, recorded in January 1999 at Ghetto Recorders and Third Man Studios in Detroit. 

White dedicated the album to deceased blues musician Son House.

The album received mostly positive reviews, much of the media feedback came two or three years after its initial release, following the duo's fame spreading beyond Detroit.

Artist Background: The White Stripes were an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of the couple, married at the time, Jack White (songwriter, vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards) and Meg White (drums and occasional vocals). After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful and critically acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew ... Part of the Detroit, Michigan, USA music scene. Emerged in the 1990s era. Associated with Garage Rock movement. Known for Rock/Pop style.
