Cycles in the Infinite Dream

Chicago psych rockers REZN combine classic and modern influences on the follow-up to their 2024 breakout album, <i>Burden</i>. In conjuring a Floydian atmosphere tempered with heavy post-rock riffing and an ultra-smooth vocal style, guitarist/vocalist Rob McWilliams and his bandmates traverse a path for a new generation of lysergic explorers. McWilliams channels Chino Moreno on opener <b>“Rites of Passage”,</b> which revolves around a dizzying stoner riff and features a Pantera-like breakdown. <b>“Transient”</b> opens with an Isis-esque rhythmic progression before multi-instrumentalist Spencer Ouellette slides in with a free-form prog-jazz sax solo. Closer <b>“Terra Preta”</b> goes full Floyd, with electronic reverberations of Eno and Boards of Canada lurking underneath. <b>Our favourite:</b> <b>“Cloudfall”</b> merges Mastodonian riffing with space synths and lap steel in a seamless merging of space rock and Americana.
