The Vegas band hold nothing back on their second album, flying skyscraping anthems over an increasingly diverse landscape. "Shots" gets struck through with glittery '80s synths and a Toto-esque beat, while "Gold" is set to a doomy EDM thump and "I'm So Sorry" sloshes around in bluesy grime. Frontman Dan Reynolds keeps up with every twist and turn, evoking soulful vocals on the swaying rock ballad "Smoke and Mirrors" before letting out a rip-roaring wail on the folk-pop stomp "I Bet My Life".
