Overtures of Blasphemy by Deicide

Album cover for Overtures of Blasphemy - Deicide

Overtures of Blasphemy is the twelfth studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on September 14, 2018, through Century Media Records. The cover artwork was created by Zbigniew M. Bielak, who has also worked with Ghost, Paradise Lost, and Mayhem. This is the band's first album since In the Minds of Evil (2013), and it is the only record to feature guitarist Mark English of Monstrosity, who replaced Jack Owen in 2016.

Florida death-metal legends Deicide have built an entire career out of being mad at God: Their volatile vocalist, Glen Benton (who once famously burned an inverted cross into his forehead), has been railing against organized religion since he joined their ranks in 1987. Their 12th album, Overtures of Blasphemy, features Benton and founding drummer Steve Asheim alongside newer members Kevin Quirion and Mark English. That fresh blood has certainly had an effect: This is one of Deicide’s most dynamic albums to date. From the rippling guitar harmonies on opener “One With Satan” to the unexpected melodies on “Excommunicated”, Overtures of Blasphemy is a formidable—and accessible—beast.
