MTV Unplugged is a live album and DVD by the American rock band Alice in Chains. It was recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre as part of the MTV Unplugged series of concerts and contains live, acoustic versions of the band's songs and has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
Original Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley shines in this powerful performance, which would be one of his last live appearances ever. His torn-up vocals are the passionate lifeblood of this acoustic set, fuelling the uneasy darkness of “Rooster” and delivering the lonesome howl that makes this rendition of “Down In a Hole” unforgettable. The band’s gloomy energy haunts throughout, but the skewed, dissonant grunge of the closing “The Killer Is Me” is especially mesmerising and harrowing.
