In Waves is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Trivium, released worldwide on various dates August 2, 2011 and August 9, 2011 through Roadrunner Records.
Trivium's fifth album is a no-holds-barred sensory assault predicated on thrashing riffage and oscillating metalcore vocals. For the former, look no further than Trivium's guitar onslaughts: "Dusk Dismantled" rides a doomy death-metal gallop, while the title track fluctuates between periods of concrete-hammering riffs and echoes of '90s psychedelic metal. On the latter tip, "Inception of the End" creates tension by layering gruff melodic exhortations over raspy barking, and the brisk headbanger "Watch the World Burn" generates friction with its shadowy, unhinged vocal jawing.
