The album was recorded and produced at God City Studio by Kurt Ballou. Guidance received critical acclaim upon its release. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received an average score of 81, based on13 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". Writing for Exclaim!, Trystan MacDonald hailed the album as "another prophetic portrait conjuring apocalyptic dimensions in the minds of those who listen".
