Back to Bedlam is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter James Blunt. The album was released on 11 October 2004 through Atlantic Records. The album was a major commercial success, topping the albums charts of over ten countries, as well as reaching number two in the United States and three other countries, and was met with much acclaim. Back to Bedlam sold 11 million copies worldwide and was the highest-selling album of 2005 in the UK with almost 2.4 million copies. It is the best-selling album of the 2000s decade in the UK with 3.2 million sold. In 2011, it was overtaken by the Amy Winehouse's Back to Black as the biggest-selling album in the UK in the 21st century. Back to Bedlam currently ranks as the 16th best-selling album in UK Chart history. The named is based on the infamous Psychiatric institution of Bethlem Royal Hospital, commonly known as Bedlam.

With unfettered emotion and tremulous vocals, James Blunt won hearts with the mega-ballads “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover". It’s easy to connect with the Englishman, as he writes poetically about love and loss while delivering songs in a sweet falsetto that trembles with passion. He used his experience in the British army as part of a NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo to write the moving “No Bravery”, proving he could translate the global into the personal.
